The recently completed refurbishment project Christoper Yard in Moorgate sees a transformation like no other. The unused car park has been repurposed as premium small mews style office development. Located  within a short distance from Finsbury Square Garden, and offering excellent end of the trip facilities and transport links, the scheme offers a superb location of boutique headquarters.

Designed by Orms Architects  and brought to life by gpf Lewis, the Christopher Yard Building was finished to an exceptionally high quality and would suit a tenant looking for a single let HQ.

Originally constructed as an annex building and last used as a multi story car park, the building was last reconstructed in 2010. The redevelopment project involved converting the carpark into a premium CAT A office space. To create the distinctive ‘pod’ the former car park had to be partially demolished, with the first floor extension over the courtyard. Internally, the basement, ground and first floor were converted into CAT A office space.

Our linear lighting was specified at early design stages by the engineers at Max Fordham. Working closely with the Max Fordham project team, and the electrical contractor, our lighting engineers delivered modern led office lighting and feature lighting for the reception area.

Over 20 hours of lighting design, including emergency lighting design, were allocated to secure and support this project.

Feature lighting

The reception area is enhanced with architectural feature lighting. The suspended tube light Nile Suspended was used in a large cluster consisting of several lengths. Thanks to the 360 degree light distribution, the Nile fittings are a popular choice of fittings when large architectural lighting features are required to fill the space and light the space from all angles.

Office Lighting

Aesthetically, the office areas are the same on each floor, all using suspended linear lighting as the general  CAT A office lighting. The designer's favourite Rio Suspended direct/-indirect was used throughout the entire scheme in several standard sizes. To increase the visual comfort, all linear lighting is fitted with a microprismatic diffuser. To increase the control of lighting, all fittings are DALI dimmable.

Architectural lighting

To light the back of the house areas, we used the slim linear lighting Leck surface mounted as a continuous lighting system.  The Leck fittings are a popular choice for made to measure linear systems, as they can be made to a very precise size.  The linear system was fitted with an opal diffuser to emit a soft light.
The scheme uses 4000K colour temperature  and high CRI throughout. All linear lighting was supplied in a contemporary matte black finish.
Integrated emergency lighting was supplied following closely the emergency lighting design schedule.

The lighting was delivered on time for a successful completion in the Q4 of 2022.  The final result is a premium CAT A scheme designed with sustainability and user comfort in mind. It is looking fantastic and we are very proud to have been part this fantastic redevelopment.
