Situated above the redeveloped New Street Station and encased in the stunning architectural building and stainless steel façade, the long awaited top class shopping destination opened its doors to the public on the 24th September 2015.
Not only does Birmingham have a top class train station, the Grand Central offers a trendy shopping centre with plenty of quality restaurants and eateries alongside the multi storey car park, attracting many visitors from all over the UK and abroad. With John Lewis as the main tenant to the shopping centre occupying its 250,000 ft2 boutique style department store, the Grand Central Station boasts high quality retail tenants and a top quality fitout finish.
Grand Central is more than just a place for a retail therapy. The stunning roof lets the daylight in and floods the shopping centre and the concourse below. The main architect on the project was the design-led architectural practice Haskoll.
Marcela Pomphrey –Marketing Director
Our team assisted with the product selection of feature lighting for retail areas and the large feature lighting for the concourse.
The modern and airy feel of the Grand Central was enhanced by plaster in feature lighting scattered in random clusters seamlessly disappearing into the ceiling of the visually attractive building. The Meno Soft 1200 from XAL was specified thanks to its unique design, contemporary opal diffusers and high quality light distribution.
The cluster consists of 14 vertically suspended Niles with 360 degree light distribution in several standard sizes. Suspended at different levels, the opal diffuser distributes soft light and creates a cascading effect. The pendant brings the staircase space to live and can be admired from all levels. The staircase is also lit with the circular Talla Wall mounted luminaires. The 500 mm diameter is a neat size, substantial enough to make a visual impact.
Whitfield Street has a total of 24,668 sq ft. office space!
299 Lighting’s office lighting stretches over 3 floors.
