Originally established in 1992 as Reeves, a leading animal housing supplier, the company diversified into garden buildings and Green Retreats, garden room specialist company, was launched in 2005. Green Retreats has since continued to grow from strength to strength, building the reputation and becoming the UK’s leading garden room company, working for corporate clients including Grand Designs, the Royal Horticultural Society, The National Trust and many more. To date, Green Retreats has designed and installed over 11,000 garden rooms.

The new indoor showroom, located just outside Aylesbury, features 12 fully furnished garden rooms and a virtual reality room, which is the largest of its kind in the UK.

The office design and fit out specialist Paramount were appointed by Green Retreats to undertake the interior design and fit-out of the new showroom. The design approach follows biophilic design principles, incorporating natural materials, natural light and vegetation into the environment. Our design team worked closely with the designers at Paramount from the early design stages. The 299 team supported the design concept with product specification, lighting design and calculations. 3D visuals were created, allowing the client to visualise the effect the lighting would have.

The design brief for the new lighting was for unique and playful architectural lighting. A combination of standard and custom shape pendants was specified. Y-shaped and ‘boomerang’ shaped custom architectural feature lighting based on the linear profile Rio was designed and manufactured specially for this project. Standard ring-shaped luminaires Rydal have also been used in the design scheme. All feature luminaires have been supplied with 5m suspension kits to compliment the double-height space of the showroom. A contemporary matte black finish was chosen to enhance the natural look of the scheme. The scheme features a mixture of shapes and sizes, creating a real ‘Wow’ factor for the space.

The 299 team attended several site meetings with the design team, provided product samples and technical support for the project.

60 hours of lighting design in total were used to secure and support this project.

Being a contemporary manufacturing company, we wanted to have a modern yet industrial feel to our showroom too. The space we started with was a purpose built industrial hanger, the perfect blank canvas to create our masterpiece. Lighting was our first concern for our showroom, knowing the importance of creating soft and striking light that would also be directional in helping with the customer journey through our vast showroom space. Paramount suggested a lighting plan involving beautiful black cased geometric shaped designs from 299 Lighting Ltd – and we loved it! The mixture of shapes, positions and heights helped to create a comfortable space that identified the paths and journey through the vast showroom space whilst highlighting each garden room building. ”
