Energy efficiency is a big talking point when it comes to building developments. Regulations are tightening to reduce energy consumption in commercial buildings, and with lighting accounting for up to 18% of total electricity used, its key we get our lighting systems as efficient as possible. Not only will this reduce our carbon footprint, but reduce business overhead costs significantly.
How much can LED lighting save?
LED lighting for energy efficiency.
The single most effective way to reduce energy consumption from a lighting scheme is replacing fluorescent tubes with LED lights. LED lighting is up to 80% more efficient than fluorescent lamps, and maintain a consistent output at a much lower wattage.
To receive a calculation of how much you can save by switching to LED, book a consultation with a lighting engineer.
Get a calculation.
Book in an initial consultation with one of our experienced Light Engineers to discuss how to find out the current energy consumption of your lighting scheme. After that we can work together to reduce it with a bespoke LED lighting solution.
Replacing fluorescent tubes with LED.
If you're set on switching over to LED in your facility, you have two options. For short term savings, its possible to use our reLUMEN8 retrofit service to alter existing fittings from fluorescent tubes to LED.
For a long term solution we recommend replacing the fittings completely with a full LED system, which allows full access to all the benefits of switching, including wireless controls and daylight dimming to further increase savings over time.
To learn how we can help you make the switch swift and simple, book a consultation with one of our experienced lighting engineers.
Frequently asked questions.
Are LED lights energy efficient?
Yes! LED Lights convert approximately 95% of their energy consumption into light, wasting only 5% as heat. This is a huge improvement from fluorescent land halogen lamps which emit significantly more thermal energy into the atmosphere.
Does dimming LEDs save energy?
Dimming LEDs using lighting controls can reduce energy consumption by a large percentage, in fact this capability is one of the top reasons to switch from fluorescent to LED.
Furthermore, building regulations now stipulate specific requirements for lighting controls to improve energy efficiency, and it is key to comply.
Does using an energy efficient lighting company cost more?
Working with an experienced lighting supplier to achieve an efficient LED lighting scheme has a higher initial cost than simply continuing on with existing inefficient lighting. However, the financial savings in the long term far outweigh the upfront cost, not to mention the host of other benefits that come from working with a local energy efficient lighting company.
How can I calculate LED light power consumption?
To calculate how much power a fitting consumes, multiply the voltage by the current (in amperes). The result is the wattage of the fitting, and is the amount of power it uses.
For example : 3.6 volts x 20 milliamperes = 72 milliwatts of power consumed.
